Career in brief

Helen Cooksley is a Senior Associate at Work Psychology Group and an experienced Chartered Occupational Psychologist, with 17 years’ experience working in the areas of assessment and selection, leadership development, training design and wellbeing using evidence based practices.  Helen has worked with a wide range of organisations and individuals including law enforcement, the Civil Service, financial services, manufacturing, and higher education.

Helen started her career at the National Policing Improvement Agency (NPIA), now the College of Policing (CoP), working on the design delivery, and evaluation of high-volume national and bespoke assessment processes, ranging from entry level through to executive, and specialist roles. Helen has worked with senior and executive leaders, with a particular focus on development, assessment, professional identity, and the resilience and wellbeing of people working in high stakes roles.

Areas of expertise and interest

Helen is a registered executive level coach committed to supporting individuals with their confidence, development, and professional identity. Personality and psychometric assessment have been central to her occupational psychology career.  Helen is qualified in numerous psychometric measures (including NEO, 16PF, HDI, HDS, and OPQ. ) and has extensive experience of applying these in both selection and development contexts.

Professional accomplishments

Helen is an Associate Fellow and Chartered Member of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and an Occupational Psychologist registered with the Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC). Since 2021, she has worked as an Associate Lecturer for the MSc Occupational and Organisational Psychology programme at Northumbria University.
